Because of an overdue kitchen renovation I find myself, at the moment of writing, without an oven. Or rather, I do have an oven: it’s sitting pretty in the middle of our living room, very much off grid. Also, it was delivered without baking sheets. Hopefully things will get better tomorrow.<\/p>\n
But because I knew this was going to happen I baked 5 batches of cookies last week. Some old favorites<\/a>, some I’d never made before, like these crispy cane cookies.
\n<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1723\" title=\"Roasting oats in a frying pan\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.growntocook.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/sized_IMG_1671.jpg?resize=600%2C400&ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.growntocook.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/sized_IMG_1671.jpg?w=1000&ssl=1 1000w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.growntocook.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/sized_IMG_1671.jpg?resize=300%2C200&ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1724\" title=\"Dividing dough\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.growntocook.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/sized__MG_1700.jpg?resize=600%2C400&ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.growntocook.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/sized__MG_1700.jpg?w=1000&ssl=1 1000w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.growntocook.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/sized__MG_1700.jpg?resize=300%2C200&ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>There are oats in these cookies. Don’t worry though, there’s butter and sugar, too. Also, they’re dipped in chocolate for good measure. The oats are roasted first with a bit of sugar.
